Unexpected Error Rotating Keys occurs when the MaxLocks have been exceeded in the Database File. This will need to be fixed in the Registry

Close Quickbooks by opening the task manager and ending the QBW32.exe process

In your Windows start menu search for a program called RegEdit

  • Open the registry and perform a Find function.
  • Search for MaxLocksPerFile.
  • Select MaxLocksPerFile. On the right hand side, there are options for Hexadecimal and Decimal. Select Decimal and change the Value Data from 9500 to 50,000. Press Ok.
  • In the registry, pressing F3 will find the next reference. Repeat step 3 for every reference. It will tell you when you’ve reached the last one.
  • Reopen QuickBooks and rotate keys again. It should work now
