Unexpected Error Rotating Keys occurs when the MaxLocks have been exceeded in the Database File. This will need to be fixed in the Registry first. Once the steps below are completed, the Admin user must log in under Single-User mode to complete the process.
1. Log out of the company file and Exit QuickBooks.
2. In your Windows menu search for a program called RegEdit and open it.
3. Open the Registry, click on Computer at the top and perform a find function by clicking Edit and selecting Find... from the menu.
4. Enter MaxLocksPerFile and click on Find Next and a search will begin.
5. On the result, on the right hand side, double-click on MaxLocksPerFile on the right and a pop-up will appear.
6. From the options select Decimal and change the Value Data from 9500 to 50000. Click Ok to Save.
7. Next press F3 to find the next reference. Repeat step 5 and 6 until you have reached the last one per Windows.
8. Close the Registry and reopen QuickBooks, log in as Admin under Single-User mode and rotate keys again.
